Grand RoundsPreparing for Infectious Disease Emergencies: An Introduction to Points-of-Dispensing [SPHERE February Meeting]
Tuesday February 18 | 7:00-8:30 pm
G23 Parran Hall
Instructors: Jamie A. Sokol, MPH & Jennifer L. Harmon, MPH

In the event of a public health emergency, the Allegheny County Health Department may have to activate points-of-dispensing (PODs) in order to rapidly distribute medication or vaccine to the general population. A POD is a site at which medical countermeasures may be rapidly distributed; it is not a medical setting in which disease is treated.

Please join us for a discussion-based workshop highlighting local plans for mass dispensing of medical countermeasures. Potential infectious disease threats (both existing and emerging) will be presented, along with an overview of POD planning and operations. Historical examples of POD activation will be examined, as well as the outcome of an innovative training program aimed at engaging school districts in mass dispensing protocols.

This event has been approved for 1 public health grand rounds credit and will end with a trivia game - prizes up for grabs!
